Life has a way of interrupting things... After a very busy summer and fall (won't give all the details here) I look forward to getting back to this blog.
One of the positive things I have been engaged in is studying formally, again, with the School of Traditional Astrology - England, in the Practitioner's level Horary Class. This is the second time I am going through this as it offers profound insight and direction to pertinent questions people have.
Horary astrology, once a fundamental practice for astrologers, provides direct insight into people's pressing concerns. It involves creating a specific astrological chart to address various matters such as relationships, finances, career, family, conflicts/lawsuits, home purchases/finances, and lost items. This method is valuable for offering guidance during crises, but it requires a sincere approach and meaningful questions for accurate results.
At its essence, horary astrology entails creating an astrological chart the moment the astrologer comprehends the posed question. No birth data is needed as the chart that is cast is contained within the natal chart of the person. By examining the symbolism and planetary movements at that specific time, it offers insight and guidance to seekers to their "burning question" at that moment and one should never ask a question until they are truly ready to know the answer.
In my experience, I have never seen a more accurate, methodical way of gaining insight into someone's pressing, important questions and predicting outcomes.
This is a field that has a rich, long history. English astrologer, William Lilly, wrote a book in 1647 (yes, 1647) which is an essential text on this topic and one of the most important books on horary astrology to be written in the English language. He gained significant recognition for his accurate predictions, especially during tumultuous times such as the English Civil War and the Great Fire of London. Deborah Houlding, the head/founder of the school that I am attending, is an award winning editor/annotator of a modern reproduction of Lilly's Christian Astrology, I & II. Her School of Traditional Astrology teaches the lineage of William Lilly.
Very generally, once the chart is cast for that moment in time we look to the astrological house that is associated with the topic and look to what planets are ruling that house, and the aspects they make.
Here are the main rulerships assigned to the 12 houses for various questions:
Represents the person asking the question ("querent"); physical appearance; health/vitality, focal point of personality, in legal trials - the prosecution
Querent's (person asking the question) finances, assets, earnings, movable possessions (we look here for lost objects), income, wealth
Siblings, neighbors, all forms of speech, letters, rumors
Father, property for sale, lease agreement, "end of matters," mining/farming, foundations, home
Fun, recreations, conception, children of querent; possibility of pregnancy and sex of unborn child; father's wealth and his possessions, love affairs, pleasure, health of children
Servant, work, toil, Illness, disease (condition/cause & whether short or long, curable or not), people in health industry, employees, tenants, pets, sorrow, uncles/aunts on father's side
The 'other person' in love, marriage, war or trade, thieves, physician that treats an illness, all forms of partnerships; spouse/lover/person asked about, business partners, opponents, known enemies; in legal trials - the defense
All matters relating to death, great danger, decay, fear, anxiety and loss. Inheritance, wills, legacies, money belong to partner/spouse/other, anguish of mind, issues that bring us fear, anxiety, loss, financial affairs of the other, debts, taxes, loans
Long distance travel, places far away, lawyers, advisors, spouse's brothers or sisters, grandchildren, religion, philosophy, those that guide us, higher learning
Career, fame, boss, trade, reputation, honor, mother, those in authority, price/profit of a transaction, success of an enterprise, cure for an illness
Friends, friendship, hope, luck, good fortune, wishes, assistants to those in power, hopes, dreams, ideals
Secrets, hidden things, self-undoing, sorrow, misery, weakness, hospitalization, hidden enemies, sickness of the spouse
So, when there is a specific question, we will look to the houses involved and will look at the rulerships, planets and aspects the planets make to find the answer.
As I get further in my study and practice of this, I am making a special offer to work with people that have questions as I need to hone my skills. In my next blog post, please read about what I am offering as well as see an easy, specific example from a question I was recently asked: "Will my boyfriend and I get back together; does he love me?"
**FYI - The app I have been working on is still on my busy "table"!
